Introductory | Moderate | Deluxe | Premium | Luxury Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel Beachfront Resort-style Hotel A welcome addition to Waikiki and the flagship property of the renowned Aston group, this virtually brand-new 25-story theme-hotel boasts a volcano on its edifice and a colorful smile on every guest. The 718-room Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel is directly across the street from the fully transformed stretch of Waikiki Beach. Taking advantage of its terrific location, some very creative marketers have come up with a novel concept for presenting their inclusive “Breakfast on the Beach.” Every morning on the pool deck, a variety of serving-stations offer different components of what I would describe as a “fully deluxe continental breakfast.” Everything you need is available including carry-sacks and you can bring your portable meal to nearby tables, to your room or about 50 steps across the street to the beach. What a delightful way to start the day! There are a host of other dining options for lunch and dinner right in the hotel (Wolfgang Puck’s Café for one) and within a couple of blocks. As for the rooms, “Oh bruddah, have they used color!” A liberal application of bright colors is truly festive and endearing. I love the two top accommodations, Ocean Front (looking directly at the beach and ocean along the front of the hotel) and Junior Suite (huge “L-shaped” rooms with sitting area, lots of space and nice views mostly from the corners of the building). Accordingly, these two accommodations really belong in the Premium category. Valet parking only ($12.50 daily). Fifth night is ALLways free. That's exactly how I feel about The Royal Garden at Waikiki. Plain and simple, The Royal Garden is a great place at an equally great price. But truth be told, the place is not so plain and simple. On a very quiet tree-lined street, close to the entry to Waikiki and the Ala Wai waterway, sits this moderate-size, full-service hotel with appointments, details and amenities that will blow away all the like-priced competition. The charming hotel and its expansive botanical backyard, which features one of the largest pools in Waikiki, combines Mediterranian elegance with Hawaii's tropical appeal. Thanks to an owner who collects and admires all things Italian, the Royal Garden conjures up images of those special hotels found in great European cities. The attention to detail at this Pacific paradise leaves little to be desired. From the moment you enter the impressive lobby, with its hand-painted ceiling frescos, rich Italian marble and elegant furnishings, as well as the stunning lounge, you'll be tickled by the surroundings. The Greco-Roman pool is a real eye-popper, with a substantial waterfall housed between columns and two jet-spas. Outdoor dining optons are also part of the mix. The Royal Garden features elegantly appointed guestrooms and suites in a variety of décor with amenities such as High-Speed Internet access. I think the Superior and Deluxe rooms may be two of the best values in the Aloha state. The spacious accommodations, fine service and the outstanding Chez Michel by the Cascada and Shizu restaurants, make this hotel an unparalleled experience in Waikiki. Whether your travel is for business or pleasure, The Royal Garden will make your visit both memorable affordable. That was The Ilikai, one of Hawaii’s most famous and venerable hotels. Thirty-five years and $27 million later, it is one of the most remarkably transformed properties in the state. Without losing its distinctive character, the Marriott/Renaissance group has recently completed all aspects of a three-year renovation of the 800-room property that sits along Ala Moana Blvd. at the Waikiki Gateway. As a result, the Ilikai has been reborn as the Renaissance Ilikai Hotel and the proprietors deserve major kudos. Not only is the Ilikai a Premium hotel at Deluxe prices, but it features more amenities than many major resort properties. There are two pools, tennis courts, three restaurants, two lounges, shops and a walkway to the Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon, where Waikiki Beach begins. Due to the extraordinarily high quality of the accommodations and the inherent value, I have decided to offer ALL the Renaissance Ilikai categories. The Super Savers are a remarkable value for stays of four nights or less. A $100 resort credit is available in all categories except Super Saver. Fifth night is ALLways free in Ocean View categories except Super Saver.
