Here's a real "find!" The Aqua Bamboo transcends classification and defies description (but that never stopped me from trying). Located, quite literally, in the heart of Waikiki on Kuhio Ave.—just a short block from the newly refurbished stretch of Waikiki Beach—Bamboo has been transformed by Mike Paulin’s Aqua Group into a most distinctive boutique hotel of only 90 rooms.
After contemplating the chic marble lobby with its Balinese appointments, step through the back door and behold The Bamboo’s most unique feature—its private backyard oasis. There, a deliciously hedonistic gathering of pool, jet-spa, lounging devices and conversation areas are set within an enchanting palm garden. You'll even find indoor and outdoor showers and a sauna for cleansing the body and spirit.
Among a number of room categories (and three unique and upscale suites displayed in our "Hotel Suites" listings), I highly recommend the Studio Deluxe and One-Bedroom Aloha Suites. Both have a whole lot to offer and are a great value in the Waikiki market. Just as impressive is the amazingly attentive staff and the continental breakfast (and newspaper) they deliver to your room each morning.
If you have to be on the ocean or must have room service at your beck and call, the Aqua Bamboo may not be for you, but let me ask—how many hotel operators put their personal phone number in every room like Mike Paulin?

Aqua Aloha Surf

I really like the way Aqua takes care of business and its guests. I also like the way they transformed this nifty medium-size 202-room hotel into a fun surf-theme delight.
The Aqua Aloha Surf is located across the street from the Ala Wai waterway, its canoe paddlers and jogging path, and is among the very best values in Waikiki. Some three blocks to Waikiki Beach and about half that to the heart of the Waikiki shopping action, The Surf is conveniently situated on the same block as Waikiki’s only grocery store.
The accommodations feature some terrific mountain views from spacious Hotel Deluxe rooms and Junior Suites, all with microwaves and mini-refrigerators. I’m particularly fond of the Junior Suites, which are actually oversized hotel rooms with a sitting area. Amenities include complimentary continental breakfast and newspaper daily, small pool, pay-in-room movies and indoor parking ($8 daily).
